Phoenix Desert Botanical Garden Butterflies
2002

Live butterfly exhibits are beginning to pop up in various parts
of the country. In spring of 2002, Phoenix debuted a fantastic display within
the grounds of the Desert
Botanical Garden that ran for a few months until summer temperatures
arrived. It was so successful that it returned
in 2003!
When it comes to kids in the butterfly exhibit, they seem to come in two
flavors: The first group are those who are uncomfortable with them flying
around and act like they're being attached by a bee if one lands on them.
The second group can't wait to get one to land on them! The girl below (obviously
of the later group) waited better than an hour and I was happy to see that
just as I was about to leave that her wish was granted.
These last three pictures of a monarch butterfly (below) were special in
that they were not taken inside the butterfly exhibit! This butterfly
stuck around for a while allowing me and a couple other photographers to
get a couple of pictures.
If you're visiting the Phoenix area, a stop at the Botanical
Gardens is a must!
